Why Apple Watch Workout?
I love to be outdoors, and I exercise indoors or outdoors nearly every day, whether cycling, jogging, hiking, skiing, etc. It’s important to me to be able to record my workouts, via my Apple iPhone or Watch, so I can keep track of them on Strava.
Problem
One thing I don’t like about the Apple Watch Workout program is that one can inadvertently end a workout, without necessary intending to do so; the Apple Watch 6 does not give the opportunity to continue exercising, once “Done” has been selected.
Goal
Design a screen for Apple Watch Workout that gives a user the option to choose to continue working out, or complete the workout as “Done”.
User Flow
I’ve inadvertently chosen to end an activity several times, when I had simply intended to pause, view, etc. Having the option to continue the workout, if “Finished” has been pressed, would alleviate this mistake, and allow a user to continue exercising.
The User Flow shows a person that will begin a workout, then chooses, and ends an activity. The Apple Watch Workout would then give the user the opportunity to actually end the activity, or to continue the workout.
High-Fidelity Design
Because this is simply a function that I personally would like to see added to the Apple Watch Workout, I did not conduct any user research, and I began the design directly in Figma, as no wireframes were necessary.

Key Insights & Reflections
Considering the millions of people that use Apple Watches and the Workout option, I have to be in a significant group of people that have found this problem annoying.
I believe this option turned out well; it’s easy to use, and would make a very smooth process for a user.
